West Ashley watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in an 11-5 loss to Stratford on Monday. Stratford scored on a double by Travis Lott, an error, and a single by Vito Dorio in the first inning. The Wildcats lost despite out-hitting Stratford 14 to eight.
Stratford fired up the offense in the first inning, when Lott doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs. West Ashley tallied three runs in the third inning. The rally was led by singles by Chace Cooper and Vince Smith. Stratford scored five runs in the fourth inning. Stratford’s big inning was driven by singles by Justini Lifsey and Garland Connelly and an error on a ball put in play by Lott and Will McGuire. Kaden Taylor pitched Stratford to victory. He lasted four and a third innings, allowing seven hits and one run. Myles Corley took the loss for West Ashley. He allowed eight hits and 11 runs over six innings, striking out five. Matthew Cudd started the game for Stratford. He went two and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out one. The Wildcats totaled 14 hits. Smith, Robbie Brown, Michael Poulos, and Cooper all collected multiple hits for West Ashley Wildcats Varsity. Brown and Smith each collected three hits to lead West Ashley.
Stratford collected eight hits. Dorio and Lott all had multiple hits for Stratford.
